Synopsis of Days of Darkness:

Ambrose awakens to find dense, rolling layers of ash-gray clouds spanning to the far horizon, shrouding the city beneath in a drab pall.  He begins his day, thinking it no different from any other.

Though it is in the height of summer, an icy, anomalous chill sifts into the air later that day, until it becomes colder than the depths of winter.

Then, the sun sets, and darkness falls.

The night does not end, as there is no sunrise to follow.

Bizarre and frightening apparitions begin appearing across a city and world shrouded in an inexplicable darkness.  It is only the beginning of an unfurling, deepening nightmare, one that will take Ambrose on a terrifying journey of self-discovery and revelation.

For Ambrose, and everyone in the world around him, the Days of Darkness have only just begun.

Days of Darkness is Off to the Editor!

Finished the polishing phase of my “Days of Darkness” manuscript last Friday, and it is now off to the editor! It was a wild and intense journey in storytelling, as you might expect with a stand-alone novel set in my Hellscapes Universe.

A lot of imagery, symbolism, and fantastical elements encompassing a single character narrative. I think those who love Clive Barker, Dante Alighieri, Wayne Barlowe, and even Lovecraft, are going to find a LOT to enjoy in the pages of this one.

Can’t wait until I get to share this novel with readers! Special thanks to Tommy B. Smith for encouraging me to do a full-length Hellscapes novel. Onwards and Upwards! 😊

A Writing Snapshot

I have been meaning for awhile to give an overview of where everything is at, in terms of my writing projects that are ongoing or complete and in the editing/publishing pipeline, so, today, here it is!

Writing has been going very well over the past two years, and I’ve been very focused on completing new installments in each of my primary series. At the moment, I am working on the second book in the Faraway Saga, Rise of the Voyagers, the follow-up to Dream of the Navigator. Currently, the word count on the manuscript is just over 66.4K, so it is well over halfway done (Dream of the Navigator was about 110K) and progress is being made daily. I am really excited with how well the story is flowing and how it builds from everything in the first book.

There are going to be several new releases in the near future. I have completed manuscripts for new titles in the Rising Dawn Saga, the Fires in Eden Series, the Hellscapes collection, and the Ragnar Stormbringer Tales.

The Crimson Reign, Book 5 of the Rising Dawn Saga, is complete and in the editing pipeline. It is a little shorter than The Undying Light, and a little larger than The Seventh Throne. Readers of the series should get ready for a real thrill ride as everything ramps up in the global conflict going on, and the wars in the supernatural realms. This title is very relevant to events happening in the world today, just as the series has been, and I took great care with those aspects of the book.

Path of Valor, Book 4 of the Fires in Eden Series, is also complete and in the editing pipeline. This one is about the size of Spirit of Fire. This one features a broad range of settings and expands the reader’s experience of Ave, as the story kicks into a full-throttle pace that takes everything from Spirit of Fire and before into a higher gear. This title features some of the most intense and vivid scenes in the series yet, and there is no fluff whatsoever. The character arcs really advance well, and Epic fantasy readers are going to be thrilled with this installment.

Hellscapes, Volume III is done, edited, and about to be announced. It features another set of stories set in the infernal realms, with a broad range of variation in settings and characters. I worked hard to make sure this is the most macabre and intense volume yet, that delivers all the goods that readers of dark-edged, visceral horror enjoy. It is very different from my other work, but they allow me to explore some areas I can’t in other genres.

Burning Skies, a new Ragnar Stormbringer Tale, is done, almost edited, and close to being announced. The release of this one as an eBook will make it possible for another print compendium to be published, since each compendium contains three novellas. It features a desert setting, a hard-hitting adventure with Ragnar involving intrigue, a fearsome supernatural foe, and a really nice range of other characters. Look for an announcement on this very soon!

As you might guess, I have had been in a great writing mode these past two years, with well over 600,000 words involved in the above. I am always working to advance my craft and storytelling, and I am confident that these new novels, collection, and novella reflect that! So stay tuned, a lot of announcements forthcoming on new releases in the coming months!

Synopsis: Return to the nightmarish, shadowy realms of Hell in the latest installment of the Hellscapes series by Stephen Zimmer. Six brand new, macabre tales of the infernal await you … but be that you only visit these realms, you do not want to share the fates of the inhabitants you will encounter!Included in the pages of Hellscapes, Volume II:

In “The Cavern”, a man finds his way into a nightmare, subterranean world that leads to an even greater, and more devastating, revelation.

A police officer takes pleasure in violently executing his duties and it appears to be open season in “The Riot” when he is part of an operation sent to crack down on a gathering of people protesting an economic summit nearby. But this is an operation that is going to take a very different kind of turn, one that opens his eyes to a new reality.

A woman finds herself stranded on a high, rocky ledge, along with many other men and women, surrounded by a frothing sea in “Above as Below”. Shadows glide beneath the surface and soon she will discover what lurks within the depths.

“Spots Do Not Change” tells the story of a man who has never had any qualms lying, cheating, or deceiving the women in his life. A reckoning day looms as he comes to understand that his actions have harmed the lives of many others, actions that in the realms of Hell take on forms of their own.

Having spun webs of intrigue and personal destruction at the heights of national politics throughout his life, a man finds webs of another sort to present grave danger when he finds himself lost within a strange wilderness in “Weaving Webs”.

Many are drawn to “The Club” in the heart of the decaying, shadow-filled city of Malizia, hoping for some entertainment and release, or even safety from the monstrous dangers lurking in the darkness. One man struggling against amnesia finds his way to the seemingly popular establishment and its confines give him momentary hope; until he discovers the nature of this night club and those who run it.

Hellscapes_600X400

Synopsis:
Journey into realms of darkness and explore the regions where angels fear to tread! Welcome to the Hellscapes, featuring tales of the infernal in settings where the horror never ends and the inhabitants experience the ultimate nightmare.

In “Blood Dreams” follow the tale of a woman who knew great political authority and influence in life, as she discovers the reward awaiting her in the next world.

“The Grove” welcomes a new arrival, a wealthy man who is looking forward to a weekend of indulging in lust and libation, as he has for many years in this secluded convocation for the elite. Something is different this time, though, and he soon finds that his visit will be taking a very different turn.

In “The Smallest Fish”, the story is told of a ruthless business mogul who finds himself in an abandoned, ruined version of the city he knew well, in life. This city won’t be remaining vacant for long.

“Drowning in Tears” tells the story of a young man’s unhealthy obsession for a suicidal girlfriend that leads him on a path of severe transformation.

The final tale of Volume 1, “Lords of War”, follows the story of a man who wielded military power on a worldwide scale as a Secretary of Defense, who now learns the deeper nature of war and what kinds of monstrosities it breeds.

Hellscapes, Volume 1 is the first release in an exciting new themed horror collection from Stephen Zimmer.
